DORSTOP – Variable Door-Stay

Current Conventional Systems

Who hasn’t been there? In a tight parking spot, the door hits the car parked next to it or the garage wall. The reason: Conventional door-stays will only allow specific opening angles, determined by stamped notches or pretensioned rollers. To avoid a collision, the door must be held between two notches. Due to the unstable position of the door, accidental movement of the door is not uncommon.

Comfort and Safety while Getting in and out of the Car

Not so with DORSTOP! The hydraulic door-stay from STABILUS provides three benefits for driver and passengers: It makes doors easier to open and safely keeps them open at any angle, bringing them to a smooth stop. (End position damping).

Due to a hydraulic piston in the DORSTOP, the door can be moved with constant little effort. The variable locking function will accurately hold its positions. No more damage from the door swinging back or forward unexpectedly, even in tight parking situations. End position damping will provide safe operation of the door even in strong winds or on inclines.

DORSTOP will increase safety and comfort when getting in and out of the car.

Your Advantages at a Glance

  • No knocking into other cars or walls in tight parking spaces or garages
  • No more accidental door movements from sliding into other door notches
  • Carefully positioning door in the notch will be a thing of the past
  • No more door swing-back from opening too fast (preventing injuries)
  • Safe holding of the door (dynamic holding)
  • Uniform, low adjustment forces over the entire opening angle
  • End position damping of the door (clearly protects the body from loads)

Patented Technology

The first generation of the DORSTOP already has a proven track record in sedans and SUVs from major automakers, such as BMW, Daimler Chrysler, Audi, Mitsubishi, Maybach, and Rolls-Royce.

Following market requirements, STABILUS presented the second generation of the patented door-stay shortly after that: 80 mm shorter, 25 percent lighter and 50 percent more cost-efficient than its predecessor, it required significantly less installation space and was consequently also suited for installation in medium-sized to compact cars.

Meanwhile, the fourth generation DORSTOP is about to be launched – yet another milestone in package and connection optimization.
